Lillian Warren
Urban Realities
Houston-based artist Lillian Warren includes images based on photographs that she then paints on thin layers of aluminum composit used for commercial signs. While straightforward in terms of medium, the finished paintings are a hybrid of photorealistic images and the artist's interpretation or memory of the specific moment of when and where the photo was taken. "I am fascinated, repelled and comforted by our ubiquitous suburban infrastructure," the artist states. "While in my car waiting for the traffic light to change, I compulsively take pictures with my digital camera. I sense the second-hand presence of other people hermetically sealed in their cars or hidden by glass storefronts and florescent light."
